Vernon
is located 47 km (29 miles) north of Kelowna
and 117 km (73 miles) southeast of Kamloops
on Hwy 97.
'Top
of the Okanagan'
Vernon is situated at the 'Top of the Okanagan', between two lakes;
the northern tip of Okanagan Lake in the west and Kalamalka Lake
in the east.
Tourist
Destination
Vernon's economy has traditionally revolved around the agriculture
industry and the railway infrastructure to help service it. Vernon,
because of the proximity to two incredible lakes, has also been
a tourist destination throughout the summer time.
Historic
Buildings and Heritage Homes
Vernon is the oldest community along Okanagan Lake with people being
drawn here first by the discovery of gold. You can view lots of
historic buildings as you go through the city's downtown. If you
like walking, a good way to see all this is simply to stroll the
tree-lined streets and view beautiful heritage homes.

Beautiful murals are also on display on the sides of buildings throughout
downtown. Various artists led by creator Michelle Loughery, have
depicted scenes of Vernon's past. The City of Vernon has set up
a mural map for you with a self-guided tour that can be followed.
Vernon
Museum
Vernon also has a museum in which you can witness some of its proud
past, especially Native artifacts. It is open all year and is centrally
located on 32nd Avenue. You will find the photo archives extremely
interesting with subject matters including First Nations people,
agriculture industry, Fort Vernon and the settlement of local countryside.
Golf - "You'll Never Run Out of Choice"
Golf is very popular in Vernon and with golf courses close by in
all directions you'll never run out of choice. If you would like
to play the best, try going to Predator Ridge for a very superb
golf course. Some other courses include Vernon Golf Course and Spallumcheen
Golf & Country Club located towards Falkland
near the O'Keefe Ranch.
Silver
Star for Powder Snow
For skiing, boarding and other mountainous adventures try going
to Silver Star located only a distance of 22 km (12 miles) from
Vernon. Silver Star Resort offers excellent skiing and snowboarding
opportunities in powder snow that are second to none.

Parks
There are a number of provincial parks in the Vernon. Some favourites
are Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park for swimming and Kekuli Provincial
Park and Ellison
Provincial Park for camping.
O'Keefe
Ranch
Vernon has lots to offer you for family fun and entertainment. One
that has always been a favorite is visiting the O'Keefe Ranch located
on Hwy 97 towards Falkland.
Atlantis
Waterslides
During the summer time go to the Atlantis Waterslides voted the
best for Family Fun in the Okanagan. Lot's of laughs including a
hot tub, waterslides, arcade, mini-golf, River Riot tube run and
lots more.

Property and try your luck digging for opals.
