Valemount
The
Village of Valemount is located 320 km (200 miles) north of Kamloops
and 300 km (188 miles) south-east of Prince
George on Yellowhead Hwy 5.
Major
Mountain Ranges
Valemount is situated in a valley right in the heart of three major
mountain ranges. These three ranges - the Cariboo, Columbia and
Rocky Mountains contain some of British Columbia's highest mountains.
Great
Canadians
Two peaks close by to Valemount are named after two great Canadians
- Mt. Sir Wilfrid Laurier at 3,505 metres (11,499 feet) and Mt.
Terry Fox, 2,650 metres (8,694 feet).
Canadian
National Railway
Valemount has been historically linked to the Canadian National
Railway with the original station built in 1927. Including the railway,
forestry, guiding, and heli-skiing are Valemount's main driving
economic forces.
Yellowhead
Hwy 5
Valemount also provides a service role as support for the transportation
of goods and people on the Yellowhead Hwy 5 between Kamloops
and Edmonton. Various accommodations, gas stations and restaurants
are available for you if you require a rest.
BC's
Best Backcountry Skiing
The outdoor recreation and scenery around Valemount is absolutely
incredible. If you love heli-skiing, Valemount has recently been
on a quest to become BC's number one location for this sport. Also,
during the wintertime, give your self a treat and try some of BC's
best backcountry skiing and snowmobiling.
Canoe
Mountain Resort
The latest news that is going around Valemount is the completion
of a new four season facility called Coast Mountain Resort. This
new alpine village will feature North America's longest gondola
and a 27-hole golf course complete with exclusive residential homes.
Fraser
River
During the summer you can hike into the Rockies, white water raft
in the headwaters of the Fraser River or experience the various
horseback trails throughout the valley.
Mount
Robson
If you happen to like taking photos or painting, the panoramic views
of the mountains and valley is spectacular. Mount Robson, the highest
point in the Canadian Rockies, at 3,954 metres (12,972 feet) is
only 25 km (15 miles) north-east of Valemount near Tête Jaune
Cache.
