Tranquille
Tranquille is located 18 km west (11 miles) from Kamloops
on Tranquille Rd. If you are coming from Kamloops look for signs
that take you to the Kamloops Airport.
Kamloops
Lake
You simply head towards the Airport, stay on Tranquille Rd. and
then go past Kamloops Golf & Country Club. Tranquille is about
7 km (4.5 miles) past the golf course on the north-east side of
Kamloops Lake.
King
Edward Sanatorium
To help in the fight against the spread of tuberculosis, the King
Edward Sanatorium operated in Tranquille from 1907 to 1957. Then
the facilities were then later used as a hospital for mentally handicapped
people until 1984.
Development
Plans
Since then the property has had a number of development plans and,
in 2005, the old King Edward Sanatorium grounds were used as part
of a movie set.
Tranquille
on the Lake
The latest plans for Tranquille are for the establishment of a Ecological
Agricultural Resort Community called Tranquille on the Lake. The
resort concept will include a marina and entrance to Cooney Bay
Beach on Kamloops Lake.
Lac
Du Bois Grasslands Park
By being located right on the shore of Kamloops Lake Tranquille
lies right in the heart of the Lac Du Bois Grasslands Park. The
park has a few interesting things for you to see especially the
spectacular Tranquille Canyon. The easiest way for you to get into
Lac Du Bois Grasslands Park is via the Tranquille Road entrance
on the way in from Kamloops.
Forest
Recreation Sites
There are a few Forest Recreation Sites north of Tranquille. Just
west of Tranquille near Kamloops Lake, the road tends to follow
the Tranquille River to some small sites at Watching Creek and Tranquille
Crossing eventually to Tranquille Meadow which is quite large and
accessible to motorhomes.
Vidette
These back-roads continue north-west eventually running into the
Deadman River up to Vidette or south to Savona.
