Coombs
Coombs is located around 8 km (5 miles) west of Parksville and 35
km (22 miles) east of Port Alberni
on the Alberni Highway 4A.
Arrowsmith
& Coombs Country
Coombs is a small rural community situated in a region of agriculture
and pastoral lands and is home to a number of small market farms
specializing in organic fruit and vegetables. Coombs, together with
the nearby villages of Errington and Hilliers, are all part of an
area called Arrowsmith & Coombs Country.
Highway
4A
Most of the Coombs community is located on Highway 4A just before
the junction of Highway 4 which goes to either Port
Alberni or Qualicum Beach. The businesses located in Coombs
include, artisans galleries, pottery studios, tourist attractions
plus quite a few antique, curio and collectable shops.
The
Old Country Market
Coombs is home to one of the biggest attractions on Vancouver Island
at The Old Country Market. There are goats that live and graze on
a grass roof at the top of the building. There is also a great selection
of food, fruits, vegetables, and delicatessen treats plus various
novelty items from all corners of the world.
Amusement
Park
During the summertime there is a small amusement park for children,
complete with a Ferris wheel, bumper cars and joy rides. Your children
will have a blast and you will have fun shopping for bargains at
The Old Country Market.
Cafés
and Restaurants
If you're hungry Coombs contains a few places including Red's Classic
Cafe, Coombs Café, Homestead Restaurant and the Frontiersman
Pub all ready to serve home-cooked meals. Coombs also has a fairground
at the Coombs Rodeo Grounds hosting various events from early spring
to late fall including a rodeo and bluegrass festival.
Butterfly
World
Also located at Coombs is Butterfly World. This theme park is situated
on Hwy 4A across from Coombs Country RV site and the Coombs Rodeo
Grounds. Butterfly World offers you an exotic tropical experience
with a display of free-flying exotic tropical butterflies and 12
species of tropical finches.
Camping
Besides Coombs Country RV and Campground, you can also camp in some
other great locations near Coombs. Just south of Coombs on Hwy 4
A on Errington Road is Englishman River Falls Provincial Park. Then
West towards Port Alberni on Hwy
4 is Cameron Lake Resort.
Provincial
Parks
There are a couple of Provincial Parks to visit if you're traveling
to West from Coombs to Port Alberni,
Tofino or Ucluelet.
Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park features a really unique river
chasm; unfortunately, there is no swimming allowed as it is quite
hazardous. The other park is MacMillan Provincial Park where the
Cathedral Grove forest is located.
